Our goal at Heavy Equipment Guide is to provide our readers – the professionals that work in heavy construction – with information helps them in their work, from selecting, buying, renting, operating and maintaining equipment to projects.

General Guidelines

Please refer to our editorial calendar for a list of upcoming topics that we are covering. This is available at heg.baumpub.com/magazine/advertise, under Media Planners. You can also read sample articles under Feature Stories or in the Digital Editions for each magazine.

Feature articles should be between 500 and 1,500 words according to the amount of detail required to properly communicate your story. Longer articles will be considered; consult with the editor first. We consider such articles as: case studies/job reports, new technology, major new equipment launch, new techniques, how-to, and selection of equipment, among others. Job stories of Canadian projects are particularly useful as our print magazine readership is Canadian; however, a job story based in another country will be considered if the content is relevant to Canadian contractors. A sidebar can be added to explain a specific aspect of the story that requires emphasis or more detail, and is included in the word count.

Avoid an overly promotional tone; readers want the facts. Please notify us if the article has been run, or is scheduled to be run, in any other Canadian or U.S. magazine, or on any websites. Please submit the article as a Word or similar text document, NOT as a PDF file.

Articles should be accompanied by at least one image. For proper reproduction, we require images and graphics to be submitted at 300 dpi (ppi) as attachments – do NOT embed these materials into a PDF or Word document, as they are difficult for us to extract and generally too low a resolution to use. If images are large, send them by individual emails, or contact us to use our ftp service. Please ensure that images are identified with a descriptive file name. Include captions for the photos when appropriate.

Articles and photos will be run in our print edition as well as on our Web site. Submission of material will be considered permission for its use both in print and online; please ensure that Baum Publications Ltd. is granted copyright for such use prior to submission.

Heavy Equipment Guide cannot guarantee that all articles submitted will be published. We reserve the right to edit all submissions, such as for length or style.
